Reps. Mike Lawler, María Elvira Salazar, and Veronica Escobar have introduced the DIGNITY Act of 2025 at a press conference in Washington, D.C. The bipartisan bill aims to reform the U.S. immigration system with several key provisions.

The DIGNITY Act includes measures for border security, mandatory E-Verify to prevent illegal hiring, asylum reform, protections for Dreamers, and a seven-year program for undocumented immigrants to earn legal status. It also focuses on workforce development and updates to visa categories.

“In conversations across NY-17, I’ve heard a lot of frustration, both from employers struggling to fill jobs and families looking to reunite with their loved ones,” said Congressman Lawler. “We must do this by fixing our broken legal immigration system.”

Congresswoman Salazar emphasized the act’s focus on accountability without amnesty or citizenship: “No amnesty. No handouts. No citizenship. Just accountability and a path to stability for our economy and our future.”

Congresswoman Escobar highlighted the need for compromise: “Realistic, common-sense compromise is achievable… The reintroduction of this legislation includes changes that reflect the challenges in today’s political environment.”

Other supporters include Congressman Valadao and Congressman Evans who stressed the importance of border security and providing opportunities for immigrants contributing positively to society.

The bill was introduced with support from 20 other members of Congress.
