This week, Congressman Mike Lawler concluded a bipartisan Congressional Delegation (CODEL) to Saudi Arabia, Israel, and Jordan. As Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, Lawler led the delegation to engage with regional leaders to advance shared interests and reinforce America’s commitment to peace in the Middle East.
The delegation focused on deepening security coordination with key U.S. allies amidst Iran’s continued funding of terror proxies and pursuit of a nuclear weapons program. Discussions included exploring diplomatic opportunities in Syria and Lebanon where Iran’s influence has decreased.
Efforts were made to address issues related to Hamas, secure the release of hostages in Gaza, and ensure humanitarian aid reaches Palestinian civilians without interference. The CODEL also explored economic cooperation opportunities in AI and emerging technologies across Saudi Arabia and Gulf states.
Joining Lawler were Congresswoman Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick and Congressman Michael McCaul. In Saudi Arabia, they met with Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir, engaged with U.S. defense companies, and toured historic sites.
In Israel, meetings included Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as well as visits to religious sites like the Western Wall. “Prime Minister Netanyahu’s determined leadership during this time of war has fundamentally shifted the security landscape,” said Lawler.
In Jordan, discussions with King Abdullah II reinforced strategic partnerships. Meetings also involved Jordan’s Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti among others regarding economic affairs.
“This CODEL served as a vital opportunity to strengthen our alliances,” said Lawler. Congressman McCaul expressed gratitude towards allies in shaping a peaceful future for the region.
Lawler represents New York’s 17th Congressional District which includes parts north of New York City such as Rockland County.
