Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) released the following statement after voting against the majority of his party on H.J. Res. 39.

“Preventing American companies from accessing equipment they need while we make the shift away from our reliance on China would needlessly harm the US economy. A big part of why I supported H.R.1 – The Lower Energy Costs Act – was to ensure that our country produces the equipment and raw materials needed to build more solar panels and solar equipment. An all-of-the-above approach to energy is required as we turn the corner on transformational technologies, especially in the green energy sector. But until we have the materials needed readily available in the American market, we cannot unilaterally punish American companies for seeking them elsewhere. That’s why I voted no on H.J. Res 39.”
