Today, Congressman Mike Lawler of New York’s 17th District responded to an antisemitic attack at the Capital Jewish Museum. This incident is part of a broader trend of increasing antisemitic violence across the country following the October 7th attack in Israel. Lawler expressed concern over the inadequate response from college administrators and local and state governments to address antisemitism.
In his statement, Chairman Lawler said, “I am shocked and saddened by this act of violence right in the heart of our nation’s capital. My prayers are with the families of the victims, the Jewish people, and the Israeli embassy staff as they mourn.” He also called for justice, stating, “May the perpetrator of this heinous act of antisemitic violence be swiftly served justice.”
Lawler serves as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee. Known for his bipartisan approach, he represents a district just north of New York City that includes Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. In the 118th Congress, he was recognized as one of the most effective freshman lawmakers.
