Congressman Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th congressional district, shared a series of posts on his official Twitter account addressing national security, remembrance of fallen service members, and community engagement.
On August 25, 2025, Lawler emphasized the evolving nature of foreign intelligence threats and highlighted recent legislative action. He stated, “Hostile foreign intel services are constantly adapting, and our agents must be a step ahead. That’s why I introduced the Modernize Diplomatic Security Training Act to strengthen counterintelligence training for Diplomatic Security agents in high-threat posts.” The proposed legislation aims to update training protocols for U.S. diplomatic security personnel to address emerging challenges in global security environments.
The following day, August 26, 2025, Lawler commemorated the anniversary of the Abbey Gate bombing at Kabul airport in Afghanistan. He wrote, “On August 26, 2021, 13 U.S. service members were killed when a terrorist set off a bomb at Abbey Gate.
