Congressman Mike Lawler, U.S. Representative for New York’s 17th congressional district, has recently shared several updates on his official Twitter account regarding immigration, local government services, and cultural observances.
On October 31, 2025, Lawler addressed the state of the U.S. immigration system by referencing his personal experience: “My wife is an immigrant, and we’ve been through the system ourselves. It’s fundamentally broken. Now that the President has finally secured the border, he has an opportunity to fix it.”
The following day, November 1, 2025, Lawler announced a development concerning Social Security services in his district: “The West Nyack Social Security Office will now be offering in-person hearings. From the moment the Biden Administration announced the closure of the White Plains Hearing Office last year, I pledged to find a solution that keeps services local. I’m proud to have worked with” The announcement comes after previous changes in service availability prompted concerns about access for residents.
Also on November 1, Lawler marked a significant cultural event in his community: “Today, we join our neighbors in honoring Día de los Muertos, a time to celebrate and remember loved ones who have passed. Across the Hudson Valley, families are gathering to share stories, traditions, and memories that keep those we’ve lost forever in our hearts.” The congressman highlighted how families throughout the region observe this tradition as part of their heritage.
Lawler represents parts of Rockland and Westchester counties in New York’s lower Hudson Valley. His public statements often address both national policy issues—such as immigration reform—and local matters impacting constituents’ daily lives.
