Congressman Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, addressed a range of political and social issues in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between October 14 and October 15, 2025.
In a post dated October 14, Lawler responded to reports of inappropriate remarks within the New York State Young Republicans. He wrote, “The deeply offensive and hateful comments reportedly made in a private chat among members of the New York State Young Republicans are disgusting. They should resign from any leadership position immediately and reflect on how far they have strayed from basic human respect and https://t.co/gWuhczzolv”.
On October 15, Lawler commented on the ongoing conflict involving Hamas, stating, “Hamas is a U.S.-designated terrorist organization responsible for the murder, rape, and kidnapping of thousands of innocent civilians. Any candidate for mayor who can’t simply say ‘Hamas must disarm and release every hostage’ has no business leading an election district, let https://t.co/LRDpZEAMS1 https://t.co/ApMAtfCPqf”. Hamas has been designated as a terrorist organization by the United States since 1997, and has been involved in multiple violent incidents targeting civilians.
Later that day, Lawler turned his attention to the federal government shutdown, asking constituents for feedback. He posted, “Do you believe each day the government remains shut down gets better for you and your family? Click the link in the below and let me know https://t.co/hgEGSneVPt https://t.co/Irc7VPj6NP”. Government shutdowns in the United States often result from legislative impasses over federal budget agreements and can disrupt public services and federal employee pay.
Lawler has served in Congress since 2023 and is known for his public commentary on national and state issues.
