Congressman Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th congressional district, has recently posted a series of statements on social media addressing issues affecting his constituents and recognizing significant events.
On March 7, 2026, Lawler commented on rising energy costs in the Hudson Valley. He stated, “Families across the Hudson Valley are opening their utility bills and asking the same question — why are energy prices going through the roof? A 2026 NYSERDA memo indicates that New York’s climate law mandates could increase average household energy costs by $4,000 annually.” According to recent reports from state agencies, new climate policies in New York may result in higher utility expenses for residents as the state pursues its clean energy goals.
The following day, March 8, Lawler expressed condolences regarding a local tragedy. He wrote, “I’m deeply saddened to learn of the loss of NYPD Police Officer Sorffly Davius, who passed away following a medical episode while deployed to Kuwait in support of Operation Epic Fury. He served our nation with honor in the U.S. Army National Guard’s 42nd Infantry Division, rising”. Officer Davius was serving overseas as part of a military deployment when he died due to medical reasons.
Also on March 8, which marked International Women’s Day, Lawler recognized women’s contributions: “On International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of women who continue to shape our communities and inspire future generations. Today and every day, we recognize the women who lead, serve, and make a difference in the lives of others.” The annual observance highlights women’s roles in society and their ongoing impact.
Lawler is known for his focus on local economic concerns as well as community recognition initiatives. His comments reflect current policy debates about energy costs linked to state environmental mandates and underscore ongoing community support for public service members and gender equality initiatives.
