Congressman Mike Lawler has announced the securing of nearly $2.5 million in federal funding to address chronic flooding issues in the Town of Clarkstown. The funding will be allocated towards a project on Jeffrey Court and flooding issues along the New York State Thruway. Lawler expressed his satisfaction with the accomplishment, stating, “I’m thrilled that we were able to secure millions in funding to address chronic flooding issues in the Town of Clarkstown.” He emphasized the importance of supporting critical infrastructure projects in the face of aging infrastructure and more frequent severe storms impacting the community.

Lawler also acknowledged the collaborative efforts with local officials, including Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann. Hoehmann expressed gratitude towards Lawler for his dedication, saying, “I’d like to thank Congressman Lawler for his incredible work in Congress, including in securing over $38 million for the 17th District.” He further emphasized the significance of securing nearly $2.5 million in funds to address flooding issues in Clarkstown, describing it as transformational for the residents and taxpayers.

The projects being funded include a flood prevention initiative on Jeffrey Court and flood mitigation efforts along the New York State Thruway in the Town of Clarkstown. The funding will be utilized for constructing a levee and drainage improvement tools in the Jeffrey Court area to prevent floodwaters from inundating properties during rain and storm events. Additionally, the New York State Thruway Authority will conduct a scoping study to address flooding issues caused by a current culvert diverting water away from the Thruway.

The support from Congressman Lawler and the allocation of federal funding to address flooding issues in Clarkstown are seen as crucial steps towards enhancing the resilience of the community.
