Congressman Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th congressional district, addressed a range of issues in a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) between October 17 and 18, 2025.
On October 17, Lawler criticized the Department of Health for its lack of transparency regarding pandemic-era decisions. He stated, “It’s outrageous that five years later, the Department of Health still can’t or won’t answer a basic question about one of the most disastrous policy decisions made during the pandemic. Thousands of New Yorkers lost loved ones in nursing homes, and they deserve transparency,” referencing ongoing concerns about state responses to COVID-19 in long-term care facilities.
Later that day, Lawler commented on recent federal efforts to reduce costs associated with in vitro fertilization (IVF). In his post dated October 17, he wrote: “Great to see @POTUS taking steps to lower IVF costs. I’ve said it before: protecting access to IVF isn’t partisan, it’s about helping families start and grow. I’ve already introduced bipartisan legislation to make IVF more affordable and accessible, and I’ll keep up the fight.” Lawler has previously sponsored bipartisan measures aimed at expanding access to reproductive technologies.
On October 18, Lawler shared his participation in an event honoring military veterans from his district. He posted: “This morning, I had the honor of sending off some of our local veterans as they departed for Washington D.C. on Hudson Valley Honor Flight’s Mission 37. Such an amazing turnout to thank our heroes and hear some of their stories. I am forever grateful for the service and sacrifice”. The Hudson Valley Honor Flight is a nonprofit organization dedicated to transporting U.S. military veterans to Washington D.C., so they may visit memorials dedicated to their service.
Lawler was first elected to Congress in November 2022 as part of a wave of new Republican representatives from New York.
