Congressman Mike Lawler, a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, shared several legislative updates and meetings via his official Twitter account this week.
On February 11, 2026, Lawler highlighted recent congressional action on housing legislation, stating, “The American Dream shouldn’t be a relic of another era. This week, the House passed the Housing for the 21st Century Act, 390–9, with overwhelming bipartisan support, including six of my bills to expand supply, strengthen oversight, and deliver real accountability.”
Continuing his outreach to educational institutions in New York’s Hudson Valley region, Lawler posted on February 12 about discussions with local colleges: “I was excited to meet with Rockland Community College, Westchester Community College, and Dutchess Community College to discuss funding for TRIO, Pell Grants, and the new Workforce Pell program under the Working Family’s Tax Cuts. We also highlighted my Professional Student”.
Later that day on February 12, Lawler addressed election integrity measures: “Only U.S. citizens should vote in U.S. elections. I voted YES on the SAVE America Act to require proof of citizenship for federal voter registration and require photo I.D. to vote. Confidence in our elections starts with clear rules and equal enforcement. One citizen, one”.
The Housing for the 21st Century Act referenced by Lawler is part of ongoing efforts by Congress to address housing affordability and supply issues nationwide through bipartisan collaboration. The TRIO programs and Pell Grants are federal initiatives aimed at supporting college access for low-income students; recent expansions include workforce-oriented grants designed to better prepare students for employment opportunities after graduation.
Election security remains a prominent topic in national politics as lawmakers debate requirements such as proof of citizenship and photo identification at polling places. Proponents argue these measures help maintain confidence in electoral outcomes by ensuring only eligible voters participate.
