This month, Congressman Mike Lawler’s office participated in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for 62 Main Street, a new affordable housing development for seniors in Tarrytown. The project involves transforming the historic YMCA building into 109 energy-efficient units, providing modern and sustainable homes for seniors in the Lower Hudson Valley.

Congressman Lawler emphasized the importance of expanding affordable housing for seniors, stating, “Expanding affordable housing for seniors is critical, and the redevelopment of 62 Main Street is a model for how we can preserve our communities while meeting the needs of seniors.” He highlighted that this project sets a standard with its geothermal heating and cooling systems and on-site energy production.

Rafael E. Cestero, CEO of The Community Preservation Corporation, commented on the project’s significance: “The work to revitalize 62 Main has breathed new life into this former YMCA building, returning it to the community once again as a hub of activity and as a vital resource of new affordable housing.” He acknowledged various partners involved in financing and supporting the electrification and energy-efficient upgrades.

The redevelopment features state-of-the-art energy improvements such as geothermal systems and enhanced insulation. It represents a collaboration between local and state entities focused on senior housing needs while promoting energy-efficient practices.

Congressman Lawler serves New York’s 17th Congressional District, which includes parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
