Congressman Mike Lawler of New York’s 17th Congressional District has expressed dissatisfaction with the current House budget reconciliation bill, citing its failure to sufficiently lift the cap on the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction. In a statement released from Pearl River, N.Y., Lawler declared his stance against supporting any legislation that does not address this issue adequately.
“As I have said repeatedly, I will not support any bill that does not adequately lift the cap on SALT,” Congressman Lawler stated. “This bill, as written, fails to deliver and will not have my support. I look forward to continuing to negotiate with leadership and the administration to provide real tax relief for my constituents.”
Lawler is recognized as one of Congress’s most bipartisan members and represents an area just north of New York City, encompassing parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He was acknowledged as the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress.
