Washington, D.C. – Congressman Mike Lawler of New York has introduced the Abraham Accords Defense Against Terror Act. This bipartisan legislation aims to expedite arms sales to U.S. partners who have normalized relations with Israel and are working with the United States against Iran and its terrorist proxies.
The bill seeks to shorten the timeline for congressional consideration after arms sales acceptance while maintaining current eligibility criteria. This mirrors the preferential treatment given to NATO allies.
Chairman Lawler is supported by several representatives, including Jared Moskowitz from Florida and Ryan Zinke from Montana, among others.
“As Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee, I am committed to strengthening our relationships with regional partners and putting our ally Israel in the best position possible to do the same,” said Chairman Lawler. “This legislation will do just that by providing greater benefits to our Abraham Accords and counterterrorism partners.”
Congressman Moskowitz emphasized expanding the Abraham Accords as a model for peace between Israel and its neighbors. “This commonsense bill builds on the progress of the Abraham Accords,” he stated.
Chairman Ryan Zinke expressed support for removing bureaucratic barriers that hinder assistance to allies in global security. He stated, “Israel is one of our closest and most vital allies, and peace through strength is the only way to secure the region.”
Congressman Davis added that this act strengthens Israel’s military edge. “America stands firmly with Israel,” he said.
“The Abraham Accords marked a major step toward peace in the Middle East,” noted Congressman Steil, highlighting efforts against Iran’s influence.
Congressman Lawler represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, north of New York City, encompassing parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
