Congressman Mike Lawler, who serves as Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on the Middle East and North Africa, issued a statement following reports from Egypt that Hamas has agreed to President Trump’s ceasefire proposal. A signing of the agreement is expected soon.
“This news is a welcome breakthrough and a testament to the strength of America’s unwavering partnership with Israel and our Arab partners. For too long, Hamas has chosen terror over peace, bringing suffering to both Israelis and Palestinians alike,” stated Congressman Lawler. “Now, with Hamas reportedly accepting the ceasefire deal and releasing all remaining hostages, we have a historic opportunity to end the bloodshed and begin rebuilding a secure, peaceful future for Israel. Thank you to President Trump for leading this effort and working tirelessly to establish peace and bring the hostages home.”
He added: “The United States, Israel, and our regional partners will hold Hamas accountable, and there will be no tolerance for backsliding or deception.”
Congressman Lawler represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, located just north of New York City. His district includes all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He is recognized as one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and was rated as the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress.
