Congressman Mike Lawler of New York’s 17th Congressional District has expressed support for the Trump Administration’s decision to impose new sanctions on Russia. The sanctions come in response to ongoing Russian military actions against Ukraine and are described as some of the most comprehensive measures taken against Russia to date. These actions aim to cut off key revenue streams that support Russia’s military and further isolate Moscow from the global financial system.
In a statement, Congressman Lawler said, “I strongly commend President Trump for following through on his commitment to peace through strength by imposing these sanctions on Russia. Putin is a vile thug and dictator, and the intensification of Russian attacks on Ukraine proves that he has no interest in coming to the table. This is how America leads—by standing firm with our allies, deterring aggression, and ensuring that freedom prevails over tyranny.”
He added, “President Trump and his national security team deserve credit for sending a powerful signal to Russia and the world that America stands shoulder to shoulder with Ukraine.”
Congressman Lawler represents an area just north of New York City that includes all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He is recognized as one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and was rated as the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress.
