Today, Congressman Mike Lawler of New York’s 17th Congressional District responded to a recent report by the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. The report addresses campus antisemitism and criticizes college administrators for their role in enabling such behavior.

“Yesterday’s report from the House Committee on Education and the Workforce shows that campus antisemitism is even worse than many thought,” stated Congressman Lawler. He emphasized that college administrators are responsible for ensuring student safety but accused them of showing more sympathy to “antisemitic Hamas sympathizers” rather than protecting Jewish students. This concern led him to introduce the Antisemitism Awareness Act, which he describes as a necessary bipartisan measure.

“The Antisemitism Awareness Act will provide the tools we need to do what colleges have failed to do– ensure the safety of every student,” Congressman Lawler added. He expressed frustration over the bill’s delay in the Senate despite its bipartisan support in the House. He criticized Senator Schumer for hindering progress on this legislation.

Congressman Lawler is recognized as one of the most bipartisan members of Congress and represents an area north of New York City, covering parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
