Congressman Mike Lawler of New York’s 17th Congressional District has expressed his dissatisfaction with the current House budget reconciliation bill, specifically regarding its handling of the State and Local Tax (SALT) deduction cap.
In a statement, Lawler declared, “As I have said repeatedly, I will not support any bill that does not adequately lift the cap on SALT. This bill, as written, fails to deliver and will not have my support.” He emphasized his commitment to negotiating with House leadership and the administration for meaningful tax relief for his constituents.
Lawler represents an area just north of New York City that includes parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. Known for his bipartisan approach, he was recognized as the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress.
