This week, Congressman Mike Lawler from New York’s 17th District has joined a bipartisan initiative aimed at reducing egg prices. He has also co-sponsored the Lowering Egg Prices Act. A group of lawmakers, including Lawler, is urging the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to reverse a regulation they believe contributes to high egg prices and food waste. The focus is on modifying the FDA’s 2009 Shell Egg Rule.

In their letter, the lawmakers stated: “This rule made little sense when it was adopted during the Obama Administration, and it makes even less sense now as the country finds itself with skyrocketing egg prices due to the ongoing egg shortage.”

The effort to make eggs more affordable is led by Representatives Josh Riley from New York’s 19th District, Dusty Johnson from South Dakota at large, Pat Harrigan from North Carolina’s 10th District, and Kristen McDonald Rivet from Michigan’s 8th District.

Congressman Lawler is noted for his bipartisan approach in Congress and represents areas just north of New York City, including Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
