Congressman Mike Lawler, who represents New York’s 17th congressional district, shared a series of updates on his official Twitter account between November 13 and 14, 2025. His posts addressed healthcare policy, community engagement, and professional discussions with industry leaders.

On November 13, Lawler commented on the impact of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, stating: “Healthcare premiums have risen by over 114% on the open market under Obamacare, even with the subsidies. We have to address the fundamental failure of Obamacare, which is that it actually hasn’t made healthcare insurance premiums in America more affordable.”

Later that day, he highlighted ongoing efforts related to military service academy nominations: “Team Lawler is ready for the fourth night of Service Academy Nomination Interviews tonight in Yorktown!” This reflects his office’s participation in nominating students for U.S. service academies.

On November 14, Lawler described his involvement in a discussion at Bank of New York with Jose Minaya. He wrote: “I joined Bank of New York for an insightful discussion with Jose Minaya, the Global Head of BNY Investments and Wealth, also an alumnus of Manhattan University like myself. Thank you for the opportunity to join today as well as sharing some of the company’s history.”

The ACA was enacted in 2010 to expand access to health insurance and reduce costs for consumers through measures such as subsidies and marketplace exchanges. However, debates continue regarding its effectiveness in controlling premium increases over time.
