Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center has received certification from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). The recognition highlights the hospital’s efforts to improve care for patients with cardiovascular and pulmonary conditions.

Cardiopulmonary rehabilitation programs help individuals recovering from heart attacks, coronary artery bypass graft surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and other respiratory symptoms. These programs provide exercise, education, counseling, and support for both patients and their families.

“We are proud to have achieved this certification as it acknowledges the dedication of our team of professionals in helping patients regain their strength and stamina in a safe and effective manner after a life-changing illness or condition,” said Program Manager James Dowling, M.S., ACSM-CEP.

To receive accreditation, Montefiore Nyack Hospital’s program completed an application process that included detailed documentation of its practices. The AACVPR Program Certification is based on peer review and evaluates adherence to standards developed by AACVPR and related professional societies. Each application is reviewed by the AACVPR Program Certification Committee, with final certification awarded by the organization’s Board of Directors.

Since 2018, AACVPR has used an outcomes-based approach for its certification process. This method focuses on performance measurements that reflect meaningful results for patients. Programs that earn AACVPR certification are recognized as leaders in cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation because they follow advanced practices and demonstrate high-quality patient care. The certification remains valid for three years.
