Today marks the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, an event that Congressman Mike Lawler from New York’s 17th Congressional District has addressed in a public statement.
In his remarks, Rep. Lawler described Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “vile dictator and thug” responsible for numerous war crimes in pursuit of re-establishing the Soviet Union. He expressed support for Ukraine’s defense efforts, emphasizing their fight for freedom and democracy.
Lawler stressed the necessity of ending the conflict through negotiation to secure Ukraine’s sovereignty and peace in the region. He voiced concerns about potential consequences if Ukraine were to fall, impacting Europe, the United States, and other free nations.
The congressman called for accountability measures against Putin and Russia while advocating for stronger economic and national security ties between the U.S. and Ukraine as rebuilding begins. Lawler expressed confidence in resolving the conflict and reaffirming America’s leadership on the global stage.
Rep. Lawler is known as one of Congress’s most bipartisan members, representing areas north of New York City including parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
