Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) has spoken out as the Supreme Court hears oral arguments on a case related to Mifepristone access. In his statement, Congressman Lawler emphasized the importance of leaving decisions regarding access to prescription medication in the hands of medical professionals and regulatory bodies.
Stating his position on the matter, Congressman Lawler said, “The Supreme Court should stand down on this issue. Decisions regarding access to prescription medication should be left to doctors, their patients, the FDA, and individual states.” He further added, “I have been and will continue to be opposed to a national ban on abortion, and that applies to legislative efforts to create one or a court-imposed effort to create one.”
Regarding the potential implications of the Supreme Court's ruling on Mifepristone access, Congressman Lawler expressed his concerns by stating, “A potential ruling banning or limiting the use of Mifepristone in this case falls into the latter category.”
New York's 17th Congressional District, represented by Congressman Lawler, is situated just north of New York City and includes areas such as Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
