Representatives Mike Lawler, Jeff Jackson, Rich McCormick, and Jasmine Crockett have collaborated to introduce the Remote Access Security Act, aimed at preventing China from acquiring American technology through a loophole in U.S. export control laws. The legislation specifically targets the practice of Chinese companies accessing advanced semiconductor chips remotely to develop AI and enhance China's military capabilities.

"China is our number one geopolitical foe and should have absolutely no way to access and steal American tech for their own nefarious purposes," emphasized Congressman Lawler, highlighting the urgency of safeguarding American technology from adversarial exploitation.

Congressman Jeff Jackson echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the need to block CCP from utilizing American technology to bolster its military prowess. "We must ensure American technology cannot be used by the CCP to strengthen its military technology," he stated, stressing the significance of the bipartisan bill in upholding existing regulations.

Congressman Rich McCormick underscored the importance of maintaining American leadership in AI development and preventing the CCP from circumventing export controls. "The Remote Access Security Act will close the loophole in cloud services and bring parity with controls on semiconductor hardware that help power AI models," McCormick explained, emphasizing the crucial role of the legislation in upholding national security.

Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett emphasized the threat posed by Chinese firms accessing semiconductor chips through the cloud, emphasizing the necessity of bolstering technological advancements and national security. "This legislation does just that by prohibiting the PRC and Chinese firms from circumventing U.S. export controls by remotely accessing critical American technologies and resources to modernize its military capabilities," Crockett stated.

The introduction of the Remote Access Security Act signifies a bipartisan effort to protect American technology and prevent its exploitation by foreign entities. The legislators aim to ensure that the United States maintains its technological edge and safeguards national security interests against potential threats.
