Congressman Mike Lawler has criticized Governor Kathy Hochul's decision to resume congestion pricing in New York City. He expressed his disapproval, labeling the initiative as a significant financial burden on residents.

"Governor Hochul’s congestion pricing scheme is nothing more than a massive new tax on working families, daily commuters, college students, and local residents who just want to travel within the city they call home," stated Congressman Lawler. He described the plan as "legalized theft by a governor and state government that is out-of-control and out-of-touch with everyday New Yorkers."

Lawler further accused Governor Hochul of attempting to address issues within the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) through this policy. “Governor Hochul is trying to pick the pockets of New Yorkers to bail out the corrupt MTA’s waste, fraud, and abuse, and that’s shameful," he added.

Representing New York's 17th Congressional District, which includes areas north of New York City such as Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties, Congressman Lawler is known for his bipartisan approach in Congress.
