Washington, D.C. - Congressman Mike Lawler has spearheaded an initiative alongside over 45 members of Congress, urging President Trump to swiftly nominate a Presidential Envoy for the Abraham Accords. This call comes after the position remained unfilled since its establishment in December 2023 during President Biden's administration.

Congressman Lawler, who serves as Chairman of the Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, emphasized the importance of this role. "For over a year, President Biden left open the critical role of Presidential Envoy for the Abraham Accords, which is completely unacceptable," he stated. Lawler criticized what he described as "willful ignorance" by the Biden Administration regarding a position crucial for supporting Israel in formalizing normalization agreements with its neighbors and other nations.

Expressing optimism about future developments under new leadership, Congressman Lawler added, "I am hopeful that President Trump will take swift action on day one to right this wrong and begin to work towards a lasting peace between Israel and its neighbors."

Lawler represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which includes parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. The district is notable for having one of the largest Jewish populations in the United States.
