Congressman Mike Lawler has expressed approval of President Donald Trump's potential decision to halt congestion pricing. Lawler released a statement following reports that Trump is considering stopping what he refers to as a "congestion pricing cash grab."
"I'm glad to see that President Trump is seriously considering ending Kathy Hochul’s Congestion Pricing Cash Grab," stated Congressman Lawler. He mentioned discussions with Trump at Mar-a-Lago and the White House, where Trump showed support for reversing what Lawler describes as an "absurd, regressive tax" affecting essential workers in New York.
Lawler criticized the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) for its financial management, stating, "The MTA needs to get its fiscal house in order, including collecting on the billions in missing tolls and fares it fails to collect." He emphasized that until the MTA demonstrates financial accountability, they should not impose additional costs on New Yorkers.
Representing New York's 17th Congressional District, which includes parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties just north of New York City, Congressman Lawler is noted for his bipartisan approach within the 118th Congress.
