Congressman Mike Lawler has expressed support for the Trump Administration’s recent decision to release funding for the 21st Century Community Learning Centers. The move comes after Lawler’s direct appeal to the administration last week, in which he urged that funds be made available before the new school year begins.
“Today is a great day for students, families, and educators across New York and nationwide,” Congressman Lawler said. “The 21st Century Community Learning Centers program is a valuable investment with proven results, providing students with the academic tools they need to succeed.”
Lawler wrote to President Trump following concerns from local educators and parents about possible disruptions to these educational services. He highlighted how important it was for communities dependent on these programs that the funding not be delayed.
“I would like to thank President Trump for responding promptly to our request, as well as recognizing the importance of these programs for our children’s futures. As always, I remain committed to ensuring students have every opportunity for success,” concluded Congressman Lawler.
Lawler represents New York’s 17th Congressional District, an area north of New York City that includes Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He is recognized as one of Congress’s most bipartisan members and was rated as the most effective freshman lawmaker in the 118th Congress.
