Today, following the passage of the Fiscal Responsibility Act (FRA) through the House, Congressman Lawler released the following statement.
“Throughout the debt ceiling debate, I've had three parameters. The President must negotiate with the Speaker, we must cut spending, and we cannot default. The Fiscal Responsibility Act met all three, which is why I was proud to support it," said Congressman Lawler. "The bill will save American taxpayers over 2.1 trillion dollars over the next six years, while blocking 5 trillion dollars in new taxes the Biden administration sought to impose."
"The bill also caps spending at 1% growth over the next six years, and through the appropriations process, House Republicans will have the opportunity to continue to reduce federal spending," continued Congressman Lawler. "The FRA also includes permitting reform and modernizes the NEPA process, which will unleash American energy. With this, we'll be able to get inflation under control and our economy back on track, the Fiscal Responsibility Act is essential."
"With a divided government, no party is going to get 100% of what it wants," concluded Congressman Lawler. "With that said, the Fiscal Responsibility Act puts us on the path to fiscal sanity, protects our commitments to veterans and seniors, and raises the debt ceiling so we don’t default. I am proud to support that bipartisan agreement between Speaker McCarthy and President Biden."
