Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17), Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett (TX-30), and Congresswoman Nikema Williams (GA-5) have taken the lead in addressing concerns over delays in processing times for the Global Entry Program. In a bipartisan effort with 14 other members, they sent a letter to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) regarding the issues affecting applicants.

"Every day, more and more of our constituents are contacting our district offices for help regarding wait times and are seeking additional information regarding the status and processing of their Global Entry applications," expressed the members.

The letter highlighted the frustration felt by applicants, with one Texas resident reportedly waiting nearly a year for word on their Global Entry renewal application.

The members also raised concerns about conflicting information provided by CBP regarding processing times, stating, "On one [of the agency's] websites, [cbp] claim[s] that processing time for Global Entry may take between four to six months—on another it states it can take up to a year."

"For the majority of our constituents, this seems to be an unreasonable length of processing time. As a result, Congressional offices are forced to dedicate additional time and resources that could otherwise be devoted to different constituent service demands and needs," the members emphasized.

The letter concluded with a call for answers, with a series of questions directed at CBP regarding issues impacting the Global Entry Program's application processing. The members have requested a response from U.S. Customs and Border Protection by May 31, 2024.
