Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) expressed his satisfaction after the bipartisan appropriations package, H.Res.1061, was approved by the House with a significant majority. The bill, which passed 339-85, saw overwhelming support from all but one member from New York.
In his statement, Lawler highlighted the positive impact of the bipartisan appropriations package on New York's 17th District. He emphasized the allocation of nearly $36 million in Community Project Funding for 17 projects across the district as a major accomplishment. Lawler stated, "Since day one of my term, I’ve been fighting to bring back more money to our district, and with quadruple the Community Project funding coming to NY-17 in FY2024 than in FY2022, it’s clear we’re delivering on that promise."
The appropriations package also encompassed various provisions that Lawler deemed crucial for the well-being of NY-17 residents. These included safeguarding Social Security and Medicare, securing funding for the Mount Pleasant Police Department, extending the Undetectable Firearms Act, fully funding SNAP and WIC, maintaining Amtrak funding, expanding military construction on bases, and preserving funding for Veterans Services.
Lawler articulated, "Whether it’s continuing to protect Social Security and Medicare, funding veterans services, or maintaining current levels of Amtrak funding, all while reducing topline spending, this bill is a clear win for NY-17 families." He reiterated his commitment to advocating for the values of the Hudson Valley region.
New York's 17th Congressional District, situated just north of New York City, encompasses parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
