Congressman Mike Lawler, representing New York's 17th Congressional District, has taken a significant step in advocating for aid to democratic allies and strengthening border security. Lawler, an original cosponsor of the Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act (H.R.7372), joined a bipartisan effort by signing a discharge petition initiated by Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick to prompt a floor vote on the bill.

"We are in the most precarious circumstances since the lead up to World War 2, which is why it is imperative that we get aid to our Democratic allies in Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan," emphasized Congressman Lawler. He also highlighted the urgency of addressing the challenges posed by the Biden administration's handling of border security, stating, "The failure of the Biden administration to secure our borders and stop this massive influx of migrants has created a humanitarian crisis and a national security catastrophe across the country."

Lawler stressed the significance of the legislation in safeguarding national security and supporting democracies worldwide, stating, "This legislation is critical towards ensuring we not only secure our own borders and protect our national security, but defend democracies across the globe." He expressed his commitment to advancing pragmatic solutions, stating, "I came to Washington to advance common sense solutions, and the Defending Borders, Defending Democracies Act is just that."

The Congressman's call for action was reinforced by his participation in the discharge petition alongside a bipartisan group of colleagues. Lawler urged fellow lawmakers to support the initiative, stating, "It is my sincere hope that the rest of my Democrat and Republican colleagues will join me in this effort."

New York's 17th Congressional District, encompassing areas north of New York City including Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties, is represented by Congressman Mike Lawler in advocating for critical measures to address international aid, border security, and global democracy defense.
