Congressman Mike Lawler expressed his strong stance on the passage of the Iran-China Energy Sanctions Act, a bipartisan legislation aimed at targeting financial institutions processing Iranian petroleum sanctions. Lawler highlighted Iran's support for terrorist organizations and its illicit oil trade, stating, "Iran is the number one state sponsor of terror in the world... All of this is made possible by the money Iran receives from its illicit oil trade."
Lawler emphasized the importance of the Iran-China Energy Sanctions Act in curbing Iran's ability to spread instability and violence in the region, stating, "Enough is enough. We must hold Iran and its backers accountable - especially China, the number one purchaser of Iranian petroleum." He urged the Senate to pass the legislation swiftly to address the issue effectively.
Congressman Josh Gottheimer, a co-sponsor of the legislation, echoed Lawler's sentiments, emphasizing the need to hold Iran and China accountable for their actions. Gottheimer stated, "After Iran's unprecedented attack on Israel and as its regime of terror deepens ties to China, we are reminded that they cannot be trusted."
House Speaker Mike Johnson commended Lawler's leadership in bringing forth the bipartisan legislation to tighten US sanctions and restrict China's purchasing of Iranian oil. Johnson affirmed, "The House will not stand by and allow Communist China to continue financing Iran’s terrorist agenda."
The passage of the Iran-China Energy Sanctions Act represents a significant step in addressing the funding sources of Iran's destabilizing activities and protecting American interests and allies globally.
