This week, the Enhanced Presidential Security Act of 2024 was signed into law by President Biden. The legislation, introduced by Representative Mike Lawler (R-NY-17) alongside Representative Ritchie Torres (D-NY-15), aims to provide enhanced United States Secret Service protection for former President Trump and Vice President Harris. The bill passed unanimously in both the Senate and the House.

Congressman Lawler expressed satisfaction with the legislation's enactment: "I am glad to see my legislation ensuring former President Trump and Vice President Harris have the same level of Secret Service protection as the sitting President is now the law of the land." He added, "It should not have taken two assassination attempts against the former President to ensure our presidential candidates have the protection they need."

He further commented on political violence in America: "Political violence has no place in our country and its precipitous rise in recent years is deeply disturbing," he said. Lawler emphasized that "The Enhanced Presidential Security Act will ensure our elections are always determined by ballots, not bullets – something that is vital to our democracy and something that we can all agree on, regardless of party."

Congressman Lawler represents New York's 17th Congressional District, located just north of New York City, covering areas within Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties. He is recognized as one of the most bipartisan members of the 118th Congress.
