Today, Congressman Mike Lawler expressed strong disapproval of the Supreme Court's decision to uphold a ruling that prevents emergency abortions. In his statement, he emphasized the importance of allowing safe and legal abortions when an expectant mother's life or health is at risk.
"When the life or health of an expectant mother is at risk during a pregnancy, there is no question that she should be allowed to receive a safe and legal abortion. Period. Full stop," stated Congressman Lawler.
He further clarified his stance on abortion legislation by saying, "I do not and will not support any efforts to establish a national abortion ban, whether it be through Congress or the judicial system." He described the Supreme Court's decision as "appalling" and contrary to previous rulings.
Congressman Lawler serves as one of the most bipartisan members of the 118th Congress. He represents New York's 17th Congressional District, which includes all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties, located just north of New York City.
