Washington, D.C. - In response to the Department of Justice's recent lawsuit against New York over its sanctuary policies, Congressman Mike Lawler has called on Governor Kathy Hochul to repeal these measures. Lawler criticized the governor for supporting and implementing executive orders and laws that he described as "absurd" and pro-criminal.
Lawler stated, "If Governor Hochul actually cared about cracking down on illegal immigration and deporting criminals, Laken Riley would be alive today." He further emphasized that should the governor continue her stance, she should face civil liability from victims of crimes committed by undocumented immigrants in New York.
Expressing support for legal action taken by Attorney General Pam Bondi, Lawler urged the governor to revoke her Sanctuary State order. "Local and state law enforcement should be allowed to work with ICE to deport criminals. Full stop," he concluded.
Congressman Mike Lawler is recognized as a bipartisan figure in Congress, representing New York's 17th Congressional District. This district includes areas just north of New York City, encompassing parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
