Today, Congressman Mike Lawler of New York's 17th Congressional District expressed his gratitude to the Trump Administration for its decision to halt the congestion pricing program in New York. This program, also known as the Central Business District Tolling Program, was recently suspended by federal authorities.
In his statement, Congressman Lawler thanked President Trump and his administration for their prompt action against what he described as an unfair taxation plan. "I want to extend my sincere thanks to President Trump and his Administration for taking swift and decisive action to suspend Kathy Hochul’s disastrous congestion pricing scheme," said Lawler. He emphasized that this move is beneficial for New York families, commuters, and small businesses that he believes were adversely affected by the tolling initiative.
Lawler criticized the program as a "scam" and accused state government leadership of overreach and mismanagement. He suggested that rather than imposing new taxes on residents, efforts should focus on auditing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) to identify potential savings and improve services. "Instead of imposing new, crippling taxes on struggling families, we should be auditing the MTA, the worst-run authority in America," concluded Lawler.
Congressman Lawler is recognized as one of Congress's most bipartisan members. His district encompasses areas just north of New York City including Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
