Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) announced today that his office is extending its submission deadline for the 41st Annual Congressional Art Competition from this Friday, April 28th to next Friday, May 5th.
“I’m thrilled to be hosting this competition and helping to highlight some of the artistic talent that exists across our community!” Rep. Lawler stated when announcing his office's participation in the Congressional Art Competition last month. “My district staff and I look forward to reviewing each of the entries and recognizing the winners both in-district and in our nation’s Capitol Building!”
The Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated. The Rules for Students and Teachers as well as the Student Release Form can be found on the Congressional Art Competition page of the House.gov website.
Congressman Lawler will recognize the finalists with a special ceremony in the 17th District and the winner will be invited to an annual awards ceremony in Washington, DC. The winning artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol while finalists will have their artwork displayed in our district office or DC office. The second-place contestant will have their artwork displayed in Congressman Lawler’s Washington, D.C. office and the third-place contestant’s work will be displayed in Congressman Lawler’s District office.
For submissions to be considered, contestants must ensure their artwork along with the completed Student Information & Release form are received at Congressman Lawler’s district office no later than close of business on Friday, May 5th. That office is located at One Blue Hill Plaza, Third Floor, Pearl River, NY 10956.
