This week, Reps. Lawler (NY-17) and Moskowitz (FL-23) introduced H.R. 3774, the Stop Harboring Iranian Petroleum (SHIP) Act, to crack down on illicit purchases of Iranian oil and hold Iran's enablers accountable.
“Iran is part of a new axis of evil that exists around the globe, working in tandem with Russia, China, and North Korea to evade international sanctions and bolster each other's economies,” said Rep. Lawler. “The SHIP Act is an important step in preventing Iran from using that partnership, especially in maritime trading with China, to benefit themselves financially. As Iran is of the largest state sponsors of terrorism and a sworn enemy of Israel, it's critical the United States use every tool in its titanic toolbox to hold Iran accountable.”
“The SHIP Act will unequivocally sink Iran's aspirations of regional dominance and poke holes in their trade relationships,” concluded Rep. Lawler. “This legislation should serve as a warning shot across the bow for Iran and China and I am hopeful that every member of Congress will show support for this commonsense measure."
"The Islamic Republic of Iran funds terror and hate across the world through their international petroleum exports. This legislation will impose additional sanctions and deny Iran the ability to destabilize activities across the region, fund terrorist groups, violate human rights, and commit acts of oppression. All foreign adversaries better think twice if they believe they can finance and facilitate terror and get away with it,” said Rep. Moskowitz.
