On June 2, 2023, Congressman Lawler announced he is seeking a veteran for a two-year paid position in his district office through the Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program. The person selected for this position will join his team as a district representative and will attend local meetings and events on behalf of Congressman Lawler and act as a facilitator between constituents and federal, state, and local agencies.

The Green & Gold Congressional Aide Program was established  to create employment opportunities for veterans within the House of Representatives. These two-year positions provide veterans with experience and exposure to broaden career opportunities.

“I’m honored that my office has been selected to participate in the Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program. One out of every two households in New York’s 17th District has a veteran, service member, police officer, or first responder,” said Rep. Lawler. “I’m humbled to represent this community of heroes and will always have the backs of our men and women in uniform who served and sacrificed so much for our country. I look forward to filling this position and encourage all eligible and interested veterans in our community to apply.”

To qualify, veterans must meet all the following requirements: Honorably discharged, released from active duty within the last six years, pay grades at or below E-5, O-3, or W-2. Veterans promoted to the pay grades of E-6, O-4, or W-3 within 6-months of separation from active duty are eligible, granted they meet ALL other eligibility requirements. Veterans who are in receipt of a 20-year or Temporary Early Retirement Authorization (TERA) retirement are not eligible for the program. Interested veterans can apply HERE.

New York's 17th Congressional District is just north of New York City and contains all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester County.
