Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) has announced $8 million in new funding for pedestrian safety improvements and infrastructure projects across the Town of Ramapo. "For years, pedestrians in parts of Ramapo have been at greater risk of injury due to a lack of funding from the state and federal government for pedestrian safety improvements and critical infrastructure," said Congressman Lawler. "That ends today - with over $8 million in new federal funding for more than a half-dozen projects all across the town."

He further explained that this funding will enhance pedestrian safety, making roads safer for those traveling by foot, bike, or car. He also expressed his pride in being able to deliver this critical funding and his commitment to working with local leaders on future projects that improve the quality of life for Hudson Valley Residents.

"Over $38 million in Community Project Funding alone returned to the 17th District this past fiscal year," added Congressman Lawler. "I’ll never stop fighting for my constituents, and look forward to sharing additional information about our FY2025 Community Project Funding requests in the coming weeks and months."

Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht expressed his appreciation for the bipartisan effort behind this project. State Senator Bill Weber echoed these sentiments, highlighting how these funds will significantly reduce pedestrian accidents and improve local infrastructure.

State Assemblyman John McGowan commended Congressman Lawler's hard work, while New Hempstead Mayor Abe Sicker praised the collaborative efforts that led to this achievement. Wesley Hills Mayor Marshall Katz emphasized how these funds will expedite numerous sidewalk projects catering to their growing pedestrian population.

Pomona Mayor Ilan Fuchs thanked Congressman Lawler for his consistent support beyond election periods. Chestnut Ridge Mayor Sam Presti highlighted Congressman Lawler's ability to work across party lines for the benefit of his constituents. Airmont Mayor Nathan Bubel lauded Congressman Lawler's accessibility and continuous assistance throughout the year.

New Square Mayor Izzy Spitzer appreciated the unity among the mayors in working together. New York's 17th Congressional District, represented by Congressman Lawler, is located just north of New York City and includes all or parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
