Congressman Mike Lawler has reintroduced a bill to honor former Dutchess County Sheriff Adrian "Butch" Anderson by renaming the United States Postal Service facility at 298 Route 292 in Holmes, New York. The proposed name for the facility is the "Sheriff Adrian 'Butch' Anderson Post Office Building."

Anderson began his career in law enforcement in 1970 as a Deputy Sheriff in the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office. He advanced to Detective in 1974 and was elected Mayor of Pawling in 1983, serving for eight years. In 1999, he became Dutchess County Sheriff and served until his passing on September 29, 2021.

"Sheriff Anderson lived a life marked by commitment, bravery, and an unwavering sense of duty," stated Congressman Lawler. "His life is a tapestry of service, woven with the threads of courage, leadership, and community spirit."

Lawler emphasized that this act serves not only as recognition but also as a tribute to Anderson's impact on the community. "In renaming the Holmes Post Office, we ensure that future generations will know the name Sheriff Butch Anderson," he said.

Dutchess County Executive Sue Serino remarked on Anderson's character: "He was larger than life and he really lived by the mantra ‘treat people the way you would want to be treated.’"

Sheriff Kirk Imperati praised Anderson's leadership style: "He led from the front and not from behind. He was a great boss and a great friend."

Pawling Town Supervisor James Schmitt highlighted Anderson's dedication: "From fifty plus years of being in law enforcement, he was a man who if he dedicated to something, he poured his whole heart and soul into it."

East Fishkill Town Supervisor Nick D’Alessandro described him as "everybody’s sheriff" who made lasting impressions on many.

Beekman Town Supervisor Mary Covucci noted that this honor extends to all who serve and protect communities: "It is with deep appreciation that we thank the good Lord for blessing us with their unselfish service to our communities."

Congressman Lawler represents New York's 17th Congressional District which includes parts of Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
