Congressman Mike Lawler (NY-17) commended Speaker Mike Johnson for putting forth a robust foreign aid package with support for Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine. In a statement, Lawler expressed his support for the package, stating, “I commend Speaker Johnson for putting forth this robust foreign aid package which will help our allies in need.” He emphasized the importance of supporting countries facing threats from Iran, Russia, and China, saying, “Israel, Ukraine, and Taiwan are facing existential threats... and they need our support now more than ever.”

Lawler highlighted the significance of the foreign aid package in positioning the United States as a leader on the international stage, stating, “The events of the past two years make it clear now more than ever that we must lead on the international stage - this foreign aid package will enable the United States to do just that.” He specifically pointed out the importance of including the SHIP Act and the Iran-China Energy Sanctions Act in the package to cut off Iran’s illicit oil trade funding.

Furthermore, Lawler expressed his frustration with the rejection of a bill aimed at securing the Southern Border, criticizing those who opposed it by stating, “Make no mistake - we must secure our own border and help sovereign democracies protect their own at the same time.” He called on members of the conference to support the majority's will and prioritize border security.

The 17th Congressional District of New York, represented by Congressman Lawler, encompasses areas north of New York City, including Rockland, Putnam, Dutchess, and Westchester Counties.
