John Murphy honored by New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame

John Murphy is a distinguished veteran who served in the United States Marine Corps, achieving the rank of Captain. He embodies the core values of honor, courage, and commitment.

Mr. Murphy has had a multifaceted career spanning decades of public service and military leadership, impacting Rockland County and beyond. Following his military tenure, he transitioned into civilian life as an Electronics Engineer in the telecommunications industry for 38 years. Concurrently, he embarked on a 44-year journey as a Rockland County Legislator, advocating for his constituents' welfare and community betterment.

His philanthropic endeavors further solidify his legacy of caring and compassion. As a founding member of Rockland Homes for Heroes, he played a significant role in addressing veterans' housing needs. At Camp Venture, Mr. Murphy served as President and Chairman of the Board for over four decades, supporting intellectually and developmentally disabled individuals. Additionally, his co-founding and presidency of Joseph's Home and Loeb House demonstrate his dedication to addressing homelessness and mental health issues within the Rockland community.

Mr. Murphy's influence extends beyond local initiatives. He served as President of the Board of Visitors for the NYS Rockland Psychiatric Center and was involved with the Orangetown Narcotic Guidance Council and the Rockland County Board of Mental Health, Mental Retardation & Alcoholism. He founded the Rockland County Child Advocacy Council, co-founded the Rockland Autism Symposium, and was a board member of Abbott House, St. Dominic's Home, and St. Agatha’s Home.

He was inducted into the Rockland County Civil and Human Rights Hall of Fame due to his selflessness, leadership, and commitment to improving society in every capacity.

Mr. Murphy is considered a true role model in every respect and is a well-deserving addition to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame.
