Cost of college went up for all students at SUNY Empire State College

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.1 percent for 2018-19 at SUNY Empire State College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New York residents paid $7,405 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $220 more than the $7,185 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 132.1 percent more than residents this year, or $17,185. Their price tag grew 2.1 percent from $16,835 in 2017-18.

About 92 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New York residents. About 6 percent are residents of other states and 2 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 94 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 167 students received grants or scholarships totaling $1.2 million and 74 students took out student loans totaling more than $546,013.

Including all undergraduates (10,424), 5,910 students used grants or scholarships totaling $27.6 million, and 2,918 students took out $27 million in federal student loans.
